Calendar
We keep the district's calendar.
All Kotcher programming is scheduled against the official DPSCD 2026–2027 school year calendar, so the Fellowship never competes with school. Around that spine we run simple, repeatable sessions before and after each Detroit school board meeting.
Official DPSCD 2026–2027 calendarSimple Programming
A repeating rhythm around every board meeting.
Pre-Board Session
The Saturday or weeknight before each DPSCD school board meeting
Simple programming: read the agenda together, learn how a district decision is actually made, and prepare a short public-comment or observation plan. One hour, no prerequisites.
Board Meeting Observation
The evening of the DPSCD board meeting
Fellows attend in person or stream the meeting with a mentor. Junior and Senior Fellows may deliver public comment; Elementary Fellows observe and sketch.
Post-Board Debrief
Within three days after the meeting
What was decided, who it affects, and what we do next. Debriefs feed Fellow projects and the Thirteenth Year portfolio.
Calendar-Aligned Breaks
DPSCD recesses, half days, and professional development days
Kotcher runs intensives on district non-instructional days so programming never competes with school.
